Imagenio has 14% of Spain's pay TV market
imagenioTelefónica's IPTV operation Imagenio finished 2008 with a pay-TV market share of 14%, after installing 22,943 new clients in Q4 of last year. The operator now has a total of 612,494 Spanish pay-TV subs, yearly growth of 19.8%.
Including its international pay-TV operations, Telefónica now claims over 2.2 million subscribers, up almost 30% on the prior year, driven by net adds of 109,500 in the fourth quarter and 519,000 over the year. The company has pay-TV operations in the Czech Republic, Peru, Chile, Colombia, Brazil and Venezuela as well as Spain.
A little over 85% of Telefónica’s broadband access subscribers are now included within some package of a double or triple play offering of the operator.
However, Telefónica saw profits fall 14.7% to €7,592 million last year due to extraordinary expenses. In comparative terms, the company claimed to have grown 38%, excluding the sales of shares in other companies such as Sogecable.
As for the revenues, Telefónica saw them grow 2.72% to €57,946 million while the operating result reached €22,919 million, up 0.4%.
For this year, Telefónica forecast it would increase both income and the operating result.
