Update Premiere secures Champions' League - 22-June-2008, 14:40

Premiere secures Champions' League

German pay-TV operator Premiere will continue to offer its subscribers the soccer Champions' League, signing an exclusive pay-TV rights package with European football association UEFA for the seasons 2009/10 until 2011/12.
The agreement includes distribution via cable, satellite, internet and mobile TV. For the first time, all matches of the third qualification round as well as the UEFA Super Cup will be incorporated in the deal. Subscribers can therefore in future follow 145 instead of the previously offered 125 live matches, which will be screened over 17 weeks on 34 match days. As before, at least one game per round will be screened in high definition.

Additionally, all matches will be simulcast as live-streams on the internet at http://vod.premiere.de. Highlights will be shown on Premieres sports portal www.spox.com. For those without a Premiere subscription, the live games can be viewed besides Premieres website at Premiere sports bars and in licensed Premiere hotels.

During the previous three seasons Premiere also held the free-to-air TV rights for the Champions' League and screened selected matches on its in-house produced window Champions TV, initially via sports channel DSF and later on general interest broadcaster Sat.1. This time, the free-to-air TV rights for the seasons 2009 to 2012 were acquired by television group ProSiebenSat.1.

Financial details were not disclosed.
