Viacom, Time Warner extend TV Everywhere outside the home

Michelle Clancy | 11-09-2012

U.S. cable MSO Time Warner Cable has signed a TV Everywhere deal with Viacom to bring six networks --Comedy Central, Nickelodeon, VH1, BET, MTV and Spike--to subscribers when they're outside the home, on demand via the Web. Mobile platforms are not covered, so iPad fans are still restricted to the home zone.

The deal is an extension to the rights TWC already has with Viacom to offer live programming to subscribers through TWC TV, which offers content on computers, iOS and Android devices within the home.
"Time Warner Cable continues to bring great entertainment to its customers in every corner of their lives, and Viacom networks are a powerful part of that comprehensive experience that Time Warner Cable customers can count on to enjoy on every screen," Denise Denson, Viacom Media Networks' executive vice president of content distribution and marketing, said in a statement.
TWC, the second-largest U.S. cable television provider behind Comcast, has wrangled with Viacom over content rights, most notably after TWC's launch of its iPad app, which offers live TV inside the home. Those issues were resolved in May.
Terms of the deal between TWC and Viacom were not disclosed.
