The Kidnappers (U) 1953 Two orphaned boys living with their strict grandfather in Nova Scotia are disappointed by his refusal to allow them to keep a dog. However, their loneliness is alleviated when they discover a baby apparently abandoned in woodlands and decide to raise the child themselves. Skilful drama, starring Duncan Macrae, Adrienne Corri, Jon Whiteley and Vincent Winter (888)

Innocents in Paris (PG) 1953 A series of stuffy British tourists have their horizons broadened during a visit to the French capital and some lucky travellers even find romance. Promising vintage comedy that is, unfortunately, only sporadically funny. Alastair Sim, Margaret Rutherford, Jimmy Edwards, Claire Bloom, Laurence Harvey and Ronald Shiner are among the top-drawer cast bringing a touch of class to proceedings (888)

Campbell's Kingdom (U) 1957 A dying man (Dirk Bogarde) tries to claim his inheritance an oil-rich valley in Canada. Unexpected problems spring up when he is forced to battle a scheming contractor who is determined to exploit the area for his own financial gain. But fighting for the apparently lost cause seems to give the ailing aristocrat a new lease of life. Adventure, with Stanley Baker, Michael Craig and Barbara Murray (888)

Coach Carter (12) 2005 A former professional basketball player agrees to coach a high school team. However, he's shocked by their lack of discipline, and instigates a tough new regimen. All seems well at first, but as the youngsters become complacent, he's forced to take drastic action leading to complaints from both parents and pupils. Sporting drama, starring Samuel L Jackson, Ashanti and Rob Brown

Transamerica (15) 2005 Premiere. A pre-op transsexual is startled to discover the existence of a teenage son from a brief relationship with a woman years ago, and is forced to put plans of surgery aside in favour of parental responsibilities. Intriguing comedy, starring Felicity Huffman, who earned an Oscar nomination for her performance. With Kevin Zegers, Fionnula Flanagan and Elizabeth Pena (888)

28 Days Later (18) 2002 A bicycle courier wakes from a coma to discover the UK has been struck by a terrifying experimental virus which sends sufferers into a homicidal rage. He and a handful of other survivors head to Manchester, supposedly the last outpost of the uninfected. But there are more dangers ahead of them. Danny Boyle's gory horror offers a refreshing take on the zombie theme, with strong performances from Cillian Murphy, Naomie Harris, Brendan Gleeson and Christopher Eccleston (888)

The Descent (18) 2005 A woman recovering from a personal tragedy joins a group of friends on a caving expedition. But their adventure takes a horrific turn when they find themselves trapped underground in an unexplored cavern, with ravenous monsters lurking in the darkness. This gripping home-grown chiller is the best British horror film of recent years, with Dog Soldiers director Neil Marshall wringing plenty of tension out of his claustrophobic setting. Starring Shauna Macdonald, Natalie Mendoza, Alex Reid and Saskia Mulder (888)
