Very Important Person
(1961) Lively World War II comedy, starring James Robertson Justice as a bombastic scientist who ends up in a German POW camp.An eminent navy officer is caught behind enemy lines and does everything in his power to escape. Wartime farce starring James Robertson Justice and a clutch of British comedy legends
Very Important Person Few could play blustering pomposity as well as James Robertson Justice. Guaranteed a place in the British cinema Hall Of Fame courtesy of his recurring role as Sir Lancelot Spratt in the Doctor series, the burly character player also lent his bushy beard and booming voice to Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, John Huston's Moby **** and The Guns Of Navarone.

Three Came Home
(1950) Powerful and fact-based drama starring Claudette Colbert as Agnes Keith.Four years after directing this powerful and humane film about life in a p.o.w. camp, Negulesco directed Three Coins in the Fountain, which proves his talent and virtuosity. Colbert is quite superb as the writer Keith who in 1941 tried to escape from Borneo, only to end up with her family interned and ill-treated in a Japanese camp. Based on her autobiography the film presents an unblinking portrait of the deprivations endured and the conduct of the 'jailers' and their rigid commander (Hayakawa).

Prince Valiant
(1954) Robert Wagner plays the eponymous prince, a Viking invited to join King Arthur's court.A young Viking prince heads to Camelot to earn a place at King Arthur's Round Table. Dark Ages epic starring James Mason, Janet Leigh and Robert Wagner, and directed by Henry Hathaway
Prince Valiant Adapted from the comic-strip that launched a thousand terrible haircuts, Prince Valiant belongs to the not terribly noble sub-genre of the historical swashbuckler. The key feature of these films is never to let the facts get in the way of a good yarn. Not that much is known for certain about that bleak time in Britain's past known as the Dark Ages. Still, with the Vikings not coming to prominence until the 8th Century it's unlikely that one of their number would have sworn allegiance to King Arthur, whose mist-shrouded era came to an end roughly 150 years earlier.

Heaven Can Wait
(1978) Snatched by an angel before his time, an American footballer returns to Earth in the body of a millionaire.Snatched by an angel before his time, an American footballer returns to Earth in the body of a millionaire. Starring Warren Beatty, who also co-scripted and co-directed
Heaven Can Wait Despite being based on a play that was first adapted for the screen as 1941's Here Comes Mr Jordan, Heaven Can Wait is a quintessentially 1970s Hollywood movie. The film reunited former superstar couple Warren Beatty and Julie Christie, who had starred together during that golden age of intelligent Hollywood masterpieces in McCabe And Mrs Miller (1971) and Shampoo (1975). By 1978, when Heaven Can Wait was made, the era was over, and while both stars were confirmed icons, their most prolific times and significant work was behind them. (Indeed, neither considered acting the most important aspect of their lives, and Beatty has only appeared in seven more films since.)

Monster-in-law
(2005) Charlotte 'Charlie' Cantilini lives on Venice Beach, works as a temp and is lucky enough to be engaged to the handsome Dr Kevin Fields.Jane Fonda returns to the big screen after a 15 year break for this romantic comedy about a controlling mother-in-law trying to alienate her son's girlfriend, played by Jennifer Lopez
Monster-In-Law At the beginning of Monster-In-Law, Jane Fonda's freshly-fired news anchorwoman Viola berates a young blonde interviewee for being "insipid" - an adjective that starts to become increasingly appropriate for the film itself. While showing initial signs of intelligence (she also scolds the girl for not being politically aware), Fonda's character shifts into cartoon dragon mould, acting nonsensically for supposed comic effect.

American Splendor
(2003) An electrifying postmodern biopic that tells the story of cult comic-book creator Harvey Pekar - and the acclaim that follows as his fame spreads. An electrifying postmodern biopic that tells the story of grumpy Cleveland file clerk and cult comic-book creator Harvey Pekar - and the acclaim that follows as his fame spreads
Winner of the Grand Jury Prize at Sundance in 2003, American Splendor is an excellent companion piece to Terry Zwigoff's fine documentary Crumb or his adaptation of Daniel Clowes' Ghost World. Written and directed by husband-and-wife documentary filmmaking team Shari Springer Berman and Robert Pulcini, it feels like a splicing of Zwigoff's two films. Part documentary, part biopic, it brings to life Harvey Pekar's underground autobiographical comic book (first published in 1976) in an extremely refreshing, satisfying and unusual way.

The Man from Elysian Fields
(2001) Struggling novelist Andy Garcia becomes a male escort, which brings him into contact with ailing, aged Pulitzer-winner James Coburn.
Struggling novelist Andy Garcia becomes a male escort, which brings him into contact with ailing, aged Pulitzer-winner James Coburn. A classy morality story that also stars Mick Jagger, Olivia Williams and Julianna Margulies
Man From Elysian Fields The Man From Elysian Fields is one of those modest but well-manicured movies that originates in the hinterland between Hollywood and American indie country.
