The Eve of St Mark
(1944) Engrossing World War 2 flag-waver centred on the training and combat experiences in the Pacific of a mid-western small-town farm boy.The horrors of horror are visited upon a small-town, all-American boy. War drama adapted from a hit stage play, and starring Vincent Price
Given that he is so readily associated with horror cinema, it's easy to forget that Vincent Price had a life outside of William Castle films and Roger Corman's Edgar Allan Poe adaptations.

A Man Called Peter
(1955) The life story of the late Peter Marshall, Protestant minister and chaplain of the US Senate, stars Richard Todd in the title role.
The life and times of Peter Marshall, the Scottish boy who grew up to be Chaplain of the US Senate. Religious drama starring Richard Todd
It's a rare thing to spend time with a real hero. This being so, watching A Man Called Peter is something of a privilege since the audience can enjoy 119 minutes in the company of Richard Todd, the Irish-born, British-raised actor who served with distinction during the D-Day assault.
His time as a paratrooper interrupting his career as an actor, Todd became a major star in the post-war years, enjoying success on both sides of the Atlantic. A Man Called Peter represented the peak of his Hollywood career. Directed by the Oscar-nominated Henry Koster, it tells the story of Peter Marshall, a Scotsman set to head to sea until he felt compelled to serve God. When Marshall does eventually leave the auld country it's to spread the gospel in America, a move that will result in him becoming one of the US's leading clergymen.

Distant Drums
(1951) Raoul Walsh's western, set during the 1840 'Seminole Wars' in Florida, is a rarity, with barely a horse to be seen.A brave army captain ventures deep into the Florida Everglades to ward off attacks on settlers from the Seminole Indians. Western starring Gary Cooper, Mari Aldon, and Richard Webb, and directed by Raoul Walsh
Although it's quintessentially a western, Raoul Walsh's Distant Drums eschews the dry, desolate Wild West in favour of a much more exotic locale - Florida's swampy Everglades. The addition of alligators, snakes and tropical climes certainly makes this a unique entry into the sometimes staid and conventional genre.

The Man Who Knew Too Little
(1997) Jon Amiel's film, which openly acknowledges its debt to the Hitch****'s classic.Bill Murray makes an entertaining bumbling stooge in this affectionately put together but sharply observed espionage spoof
The Man Who Knew Too Little Shortly after arriving in London a slow-witted US tourist (Murray) signs up for what he believes is an Interactive Theatre experience with a thriller theme. Then, by virtue of a credibility-stretching coincidence, he innocently intercepts a message meant for a hit-man and becomes embroiled in a real plot to wreck an Anglo-Russian peace conference.

(2004) A picaresque, episodic film with a cast of disparate characters whose lives coincide for one reason or another.Thirty-six hours in the life of a disparate group of Los Angelinos linked together by a car crash. The debut film from Million Dollar Baby screenwriter Paul Haggis
If America is a melting pot then somebody forgot to tell the inhabitants of Los Angeles. In Crash, the multi-ethnic residents of the sprawling west coast hub are so paranoid about being the victims of crime or racial oppression they've lost the ability to interact with each other rationally.

Cabin Fever
(2002) Five youths go to a cabin in the woods but one by one they are infected with a flesh-eating disease.Five youths go to a cabin in the woods but one by one they are infected with a flesh-eating disease. Icky horror film debut from writer-director Eli Roth
Cabin Fever Filmmaker and sometime actor and assistant to David Lynch Eli Roth makes no bones about his influences. He admits to wanting to make a "throwback" to the likes of The Evil Dead and The Thing - films from a time when horror meant genuinely horrifying and scary, and not ironic and self-referential. He's failed on most of those fronts - Cabin Fever is only vaguely horrifying and displays the sort of tongue-in-cheek self-consciousness he was professing to avoid. But it's still a moderately entertaining film that has its moments and is riddled with interesting, dubious subtexts.

Live Flesh
(1997) A bizarre love triangle involving a cop, a drug user and the son of a prostitute provide the setting for this gem from Pedro Almodovar. The lives of a small group of people are forever changed following a shooting. Mystery thriller starring Javier Bardem and Francesca Neri and written and directed by Pedro Almodvar
Live Flesh Live Flesh represented something of a watershed for Pedro Almodvar. For those who loved the Spaniard's frothy, flirtatious flights of fancy, this rather serious picture - adapted from the novel by Ruth Rendell - was something of a disappointment.
