@arlequin

You're running an X86-64 kernel, right? I saw some of these errors popping up on a AMD64 platform. This is the exact reason why I stay with X86 atm. Also, the performance increase compared to X86 editions is minimal.

In theory it doesn't matter if it's 64-bit or 32-bit. But as stated, I use Xubuntu 8.04 myself. Newer editions of Ubuntu did break several things and people went back to 8.04 with 32-bit kernel and there problems went away.

But this tutorial will work with 64-bit installations. The firmware doesn't care if it's 32-bit or 64-bit.

Yes, it's what I gathered from your tut, and the compile on 64bit goes very fine too, no reported problems on install, only with me when restarted the card would not be recognised.

Hence my suggestion as to the operating system

anyhow I just wanted to add that recently hauppauge have increased the price of the tv card, and I think this one is substitute, correct me if am worng?

As I have understood HVR-4000 works out of the box in Ubuntu 9.04 because of a new kernel. But what programs are the best to use all the functionality of this card?

I use VDR myself. But you can use MythTV (only DVB-S and you must use sasc-ng to use cardsharing protocols) and Kaffeine as well.

If I will do as you described here, how to make also possible to use by VDR on HVR-4000 to watch digital terrestrial and analog TV without loosing possibility
to watch sattelite TV, just to switch when I want on a desired type of TV?
