I don't know why xineliboutput doesn't start, but if you check /var/log/user.log, it should say why it doesn't start.

And you have the wrong channels.conf location. It should be in /etc/vdr/. If you downloaded it from LinowSat, you can easily just copy it to that location.

Hi Shalafi,

I've installed everything as per your tutorial and everything (almost) is working. However, I can't seem to get my MCE USB remote control working. I have it on /event6 path but you mentioned that I need to use lircd, which I have in my runvdr script. Although, vdr starts with "No signal", I can't get it to respond to any button presses on my remote. Is there a way to "test" my lircd installation?

Also, it seems that I do have signal according to this, but for some reason I still get "No Signal" message? What does this timeout mean?

Code:
Sep 25 09:03:45 [core.ci] 0.0 got CA pmt ciCmd=3 caLm=3
Sep 25 09:03:45 [core.ci] 0.0 answer to query

Ok, do the following:

Code:
sudo dpkg-reconfigure lirc-modules-source
sudo dpkg-reconfigure lirc
With the last command, you'll be able to configure your remote. Be sure to select the MCE remote, you don't need any callback so the other options can be left left at the default setting.

You can now test your remote using the command 'irw'. Just run this in a SSH or Terminal Session and press buttons on your remote. If it gets information, then your remote is configured.

Now you have to start VDR with the --lircd=/dev/lircd switch. Direct after that, start vdr-sxfe and you should have the Configure wizard from your remote on screen. Just press a button to start it.

If you don't have the remote configuration wizard. Simple remove /etc/vdr/remote.conf and restart the procedure again (stop vdr, start vdr, start vdr-sxfe).

Hi
I may be a bit out on my own here as I am trying to set this up on fedora 8 rather than ubuntu.
Everthing appears to have compiled correctly and I can run vdr and vdr-sxfe which displays the stream
but I see no OSD.
I am not sure if this is OSD related or if it is not receiving the remote signal correctly
Lircd is running OK and I have also tried to control with P 'remote -p tcp:23' using a telnet input,
I have also tried switching skin to skincurses but still no OSD.

some output from /var/log/messages

I don't know which videocard you're using (type, chipset, brand, etc). But if you don't get an OSD, that means you don't have the xv portion of your driver enabled.

If you use an ATI or a nvidia card, be sure to install the closed-source drivers.

finaly i was to setup the channels.conf part, and didn't manage to find the channels.conf in the /var/etc folder? should i be there?

anyway, i found a channels.conf file in the /etc/vdr/channels.conf and deleted the contens and replaced it with the CAID from linowsat. now the runvdr script gives output:

vdr: error while reading '/etc/vdr/channels.conf'

so i guess that was the wrong channels.conf file. or at least i should'nt have deleted the entry.

someway i can fix the file again, or am i to reinstall all over to get this in order?

regards

Very strange this, I have a nvidia fx5900xt and I am using the nvidia 96 version closed-source drivers, I have also tried the latest 170 version drivers.
I am not seeing any errors in Xorg.0.log and xv appears to be working fine for mythtv.

Hello Mr. shalafi,

i found your HOWTO yesterday and checked it out with a fresh install of Xubuntu 8.04 on my PC with a Technisat Skystar2 Rev. 2.6

It works fine...

Thank you very much for this great tutorial!

Now i have to configure my Remote (TS35-IRUSB) wich is given with the TV Card.
I think this will be no Problem - hopefully....
It already runs under Sidux.

Maybe next time, i gona try to get my Skystar2 Rev.2.8 running, but now i just enjoy VDR

Regards
KuliX

(please excuse my simple English, i try my very best...)
