I don't know what I'm doing wrong. I go to cd /usr/bin, then type ./vdr or ./runvdr and get absolutely nothing. I was getting a lot of output yesterday, but now, NOTHING. is there anything I can try?

thanks

Check /var/log/user.log! That should have the output from VDR.

Hi

Just to report back after my previous OSD problems getting this to work on fedora I decided to rebuild the system on ubuntu and I have eventually had success.
Just one stumbling block I encountered on the way, when compiling xine make was failing on the following errors

Code:
function `dts_init':
(.text+0x5ee): undefined reference to `cos'
/usr/lib/gcc/i486-linux-gnu/4.2.3/../../../../lib/libdts_pic.a(parse.o):
In
function `dts_init':
(.text+0x66e): undefined reference to `cos'
/usr/lib/gcc/i486-linux-gnu/4.2.3/../../../../lib/libdts_pic.a(parse.o):
In
function `dts_init':
(.text+0x6be): undefined reference to `cos'
/usr/lib/gcc/i486-linux-gnu/4.2.3/../../../../lib/libdts_pic.a(parse.o):
In
function `dts_init':
(.text+0x70e): undefined reference to `sin'
collect2: ld returned 1 exit status
make[2]: *** [xineplug_decode_dts.la] Fehler 1
make[2]: Verlasse Verzeichnis '/usr/src/xine-lib-1.2/src/audio_dec'
make[1]: *** [all-recursive] Fehler 1
make[1]: Verlasse Verzeichnis '/usr/src/xine-lib-1.2/src'
make: *** [all-recursive] Fehler 1
after a bit of searching I found the answer was to by modify the Makefile in the xine-lib-1.2/src/audio_dec directory.
Look for
-ldts_pic and add -lm after it.

Thanks for a great tutorial.

http://www.eurocardsharing.com/f273/...8-04-a-63074-7

I have your same problem and cannot figure out with config --help.

Please help

Hi,

I found here :
HOWTO: Compile the latest ffmpeg and x264 from source - Page 14 - Ubuntu Forums

that liba 52 option has been removed because ffmpeg now has a native ac3 encoder. It's built in.

It is that correct ??? ... Can i go ahead now with the tutorial ?

OK :) TFH is going to make the switch as well. As the new DM8000 wil be 999 Euro's, due to another price increase, I have decided to purchase the following materials:

- Antec Veris Media Fusion Remote Black
- AMD Asus M3N78-EM AM2+ (GeForce8300/HDMI/DVI)
- Processor AMD Athlon 64 X2 4850E AM2 box
- OCZ Core V2 Solid State Disk 30GB OCZSSD2-2C30G
- Corsair 2x1024MB DDR2 800 TWIN2X2048-6400
- 446006 - GR HDD adaptor 2,5" to 3,5" PA-197
- Zalman 500W ZM500-HP Power Supply
- NOVA DVB-S2 card
- Blue Ray DVD drive.

This means I am gonna end up with a 700 euro DVB-S HTPC :) I already downloaded and burned Xubuntu to CD, and I will get my stuff this evening so.. TFH won't be playing with his avatar the next few days ;)

* HTPC with POV Intel Atom Dual Core 1,66Ghz
* 4 Gbyte / 32 GByte SSD / BluRay draive
* Latest XBMC Version

Correct. The new FFMPEG SVN now has an internal AC3 encoder. You can skip the --enable-liba52 option.
