Lightbulb Ubuntu 10.10 Server & gbox - 29-January-2011, 23:51

Has anyone managed to run any version of gbox on a Ubuntu 10.10 Server without getting glibc error messages? If so, how?
Any feedback would be welcome. Many thanks in advance.

Thank you very much my friend for your interest which is highly appreciated. The error output goes like this:

gboxx86: relocation error: /lib/libresolv.so.2: symbol strlen, version GLIBC_2.0 not defined in file libc.so.6 with link time reference

Anyway, I have now given up on Ubuntu 10.10 and have installed instead VectorLinux 6.0 Light (Slackware) and the system works just fine. Thanks again.

what I found about it:

Maybe that bug is caused by a static linking with the libc.
Source: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+s...ne/+bug/576531

So, the problem is, that the libc is to know in ubuntu. Currently I dont now a workaround.. possible there is a description in the bugreport.

Possible the author of gbox provide a updated executable without static linking...

but when u use now a other system there is no need for it?!

Thanks for trying to help.
Indeed, that's what I thought as well. This libc version is rather new to Ubuntu 10.10 and is causing this discrepancy. On the other hand, just like you have pointed out the gboxx86 binary is rather old for this libc version and hence the problems. If only we had the source for gboxx86; then we could re-compile it for any Linux distribution thus avoid all such trouble.
