VDR 1.6.0, xine plugin and OSD with Budget card - 09-June-2008, 09:04

Currently I'm trying to get VDR v1.6.0 working on a Ubuntu Hardy (8.0.4) X86_64 installation running on a AMD X2-4200 and a Ati Radeon X3450 using the Ati Catalyst 8.5 for Linux as well as the RadeonHD drivers (which don't work).

I've used a tutorial to get VDR compiled with several plugins and I've compiled the Xine Out and Softdevice plugin since I don't have a hardware device for this.

- With Xine Out I get picture but OSD doesn't work in OpenGL mode. XV mode gives some results but it doesn't work;
- Softdevice plugin with Xv doesn't work at all, VDR won't start since it can't find a Xv display;

I've used vdr-sxfe as well as Xine for getting it work. As stated, picture shows but the OSD fails to show. I've made sure that the plugin start with VDR has the option Xv (Softdevice and Xine Out) or OpenGL (Xine Out).

In short, I think it's related to my videocard in combination with the ATI binary drivers.

My question: Have others got the OSD working with VDR and a Budget card and could you please tell me which Graphics card you use? If you use a new range of Ati card, which driver did you use to get it working?

Thanks in advance :)

I had a problem with an ATI card and the osd. On my laptop remotely it all worked, but locally there was no osd. I summerised that it was a conflict with xv (ati version) and xine. I use a Nexus-S so it wasn't a big deal. On a previous NVidia card the OSD worked on xv but not xvmc. And the quality of xv wasn't great.

Gentoo Linux - Nexus-s, Linux VDR - 2 x ATSC HD cards, Hauppauge PVR 500 for analog US Cable, 3 x Hauppauge MVP's running Vomp on VDR, UK TV on IPTV.

Not a single sat dish at the moment. :-(

Could you enlighten me with which output plugin you used and with which drivers (nvidia closed or Xorg drivers)?

The were the nvidia closed. I never tried the nv drivers, although I probably should have.

I've got it working :) I just got the latest CVS from xineliboutput and compiled it, installed it and now the OSD works using vdr-sxfe!

Next step, vdr-sc plugin!
