Question DM 800 (clone) - Controlling the fan? - 11-November-2009, 14:16

Hi there...
Yeah: my clone has a fan installed. I'm very satisfied anyway but the fan is a bit noisy...

I've seen that the DM 8000 has a plugin for controlling the fan.. Is it possible to control the fan on an DM 800 HD PVR?
I know I can unplug it but I just want to control it.

Now, the fan starts only on certain channels. So if I choose one channel it goes on. If I zap to an other channel it turns off again. Several channels does not trigger the fan, but some do (and its always the same ones).
Do you have an idea what it is that triggers the start of the fan on these channels and what makes it silent on other channels?

Thanks Cold007... I've tried to introduce myself now.. Hope its ok according to the rules :-)

Not sure what you mean with "a passive cooler". Do you mean connecting a fan on the outside of the box (like a laptop cooler?).
Would be glad if you have some more info onwhat i can do with it...

as for the noise, use those with ball-bearings... less noise.

I`m running a DM800HD with an internal sata hdd :)
It was running at 50 ish degrees, so I put a 3 inch quiet PC case fan onto a thin USB2 lead & connected the red & black wires of both together.
Now I have a quiet PC fan, sat on top of my DM above the HDD, powered by the bottom USB slot & it is VERY quiet & the HDD runs at about 40 degrees when in use :)
Can`t feel ANY heat from above the tuner now either.
regards nimuk :)
