DM500 not steering to correct Sats (setup issue) - 08-April-2010, 22:52

I have just set up my dish and am able to find a few satellites successfully. I was unable to see 28.2E so I used the goto Satellite option and attempted to tweak the dish.

After attempting to move the dish I realised that the indicator on the motor was showing that the dish was way off into the 35-38 degrees.

I have then attempted to resolve this by changing the 'stored position'. I now realise that this was probably a bad idea....

Two questions

1 - Why, when I have selected 'goto Astra @ 28.2 would it be at a different position?

2 - How can I remove any dodgy configuration I may have 'stored' and go back to the default?

Cheers

I dont know the exact reason for this m8 but the scale on the motor doesn't seem to bear much resemblance to the actual satellite positions,

When I am on 28.2E the motor scale also shows 35ish,so dont think its anything to worry about

Not sure how you did your set up for the motor.

What I usually do is I load a channel list via ftp, I pick a channel that I know has a good signal (Sky channels are usually good), I select it on the box and then I use the positioner to move the dish until I can get signal on that channel. I find that the meter in the motor set-up menu is no good, so I use the infobar to measure the signal instead.

Once I found the satellite on that channel I try a different channel with a lower signal and tweak the position until I get the best reception. Once that is done I go into the motor setup menu and get it to memorize the position. Job done.

It takes a bit of time when you do it first time, but at least once you've had it done this way everything is set up properly. Works perfect for me, anyway.

Hope this helps.
