Dream problem help!! - 19-March-2008, 00:31

Hi to you all.

I have just received the two DM500s I ordered form e-bay.
When I turned them on I found out that the guy who sold them had already installed Nabilo + CCcam on both.
I went on with the first one and made some configuration changes (changed to single satellite and changed rotor settings since I do not have one) and made an automatic transponder search on hotbird. When the search was completed I was asked whether to search another sat. and chose NO. That was it! After that the screen turned blank. After waiting for a few minutes (supposed that it was saving the new channels list) I disconnected the power and reconnected. Now what I receive is the Nabilo welcome screen blinking and no other response to the remote control.
Stupidly, I repeated the above procedure on the second box with exactly the same results.
I've tried to flash them with a null modem cable using DreamUp with 2 different computers but no success.
I followed all the instructions, but after I click on connect nothing happens.
It could of course be that the cable is faulty, this is the bast case scenario.

Any ideas guys? I feel completely lost. What do I do wrong? Please help!

1.ok take a deep breath and have a stiff drink. The good news is you will not have totally stuffed the boxes
2. can you test your null modem cable ? ( and pray its fooked)
3. Did you try to re flash both boxes?
4. if the answer to the above is no then have you checked the channel line up ?.
5. can you use dcc on either box via the network cable ?

Thanks for your reply skyman.
Yes, I've tried to reflash both boxes but nothing happened.
It's the first time in my life using a serial cable. Do you have any good idea on how to test it?
I don't know what dcc is but i've tried lan as well.
I dont know if i used the right IP for the box since I have no access to it know. I tried the IP shown for "dreambox" in my router's configuration page. Same thing. After I click "connect" nothing happens....

DCC stands for dreambox control center, a program to access your box. Maybe it works, probably not because the former owner will have changed the standard password. I recommend using dreamup to flash your boxes again. Go to the dreammultimedia site to get the right version, right manual AND latest firmware. After that install a new image.
