Best wireless set-up for PC/DM800/PS3 - 01-November-2009, 22:32

I would appreciate some advice on selecting the best configuration for my small wireless network (PC /Dreambox/PS3); I am a total newby to networking, so excuse my questions:

Powerline is out of question, because the adapters need to be on the same ring / phase, or so the manufacturers claim.

So I am looking at the following;

Option 1

Phone - cable - ADSL Modem - cable - Wireless Router - cable - PC

And in another corner of the room, Dreambox 800 and possibly/rarely PS3 with USB adapters receiving signal from the router.

Option 2

Basically, router would be located next to DB800 / PS3, and in that case, USB Wireless adaptor would be with the PC.

Yeah, and if that would save the day, I do not care too much if PS3 is connected or not - it would be nice, though.

Any advice is welcome, as are the pros and cons of each of the options I mentioned (I am sure there are more).

Firstly I've never heard of someone having issues using a powerline in a house. It even seems to jump over the distribution boards so it doesn't need to be on the same fuse/ring. We have powerlines in our bedroom, living room and even the loft.... So I suggest trying them, perhaps borrow some to test first?

Failing that you won't want ur DM on wireless as this will cause freezes in the pic should anything ever interfere. Which as we all know happens all too often.

So hardwire the DM and the PS3 and use your PC wirelessly.

Hope that helps...
