Card Sharing Receivers - 19-August-2008, 19:26

Hello everyone
Im sorry if this sounds like a noob question.
Im planning on buying a card sharing receiver.
can somebody tell me which receiver is the best in terms of being able to watch without much interruption.
Plus where i live a store is selling a dreambox receiver for 240$ he says it comes with a six month subscription. what would this subscription be and is it better to use that or a free server or whatever it is. thanks everyone for all there help in advance

thanks for the quick reply
i dont have an hdtv so i dont have to worry about that.
my main concern is that the receiver will stop getting these pay channels after a while.
or does that depend on what image im using or does the image not affect it at all.
i know these are pretty stupid questions but i cant seem to find a tutorial that explains exactly how cardsharing actually works and what the difference between cardsharing without a subscription and with is. if you could point one out to me id be very thankful

About the receiver which receiver do you recommend in ability to last the longest working ( watching pay channels)

thanks for any help

Cardsharing doesn't depend on the image you use; it depends on your (future) peers! With an abbo you can watch the channels your abbo unlocks, to view other (pay)channels you'll need peers.

Ok how do i get peers and whats an abbo??
Is the nascamd server the same thing as a cardsharing device???
IM sorry but i dont know anything about this stuff.
I still havent purchased anything, for my use (watching nilesat and maybe arabsat from jordan) would it be best to get a cardsharing device like a dreambox or others or should i subscribe to a server and by a receiver like a nanoxx??
Plus what is an image and what purpose does it serve??
thanks

{Ron!n} i suggest you start by having a good read of this Card sharing - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Once you have grasped the method by which card sharing works, decide what your budget is and look at the Linux Receivers you can afford.
Read up on the receiver and the emu and image you wish to use.

thank you. I had read the article before but i was wondering about the nascamd server. I was unable to find anything explaining it. so basically it is just a cardsharing device that hooks up to a server that has the cards in it and nothing else.???

With a twin tuner you can, for example, watch a channel and record another. My advice if you don't want a HD receiver; buy a 7020.
