Dreambox Stream - 12-May-2009, 18:13

Hallo Guys,

does anybody have Information about streaming from the Dreambox when you are outside your home network?

As soon as i leave my home and try to connect via Internet to my Dreambox to watch on a laptop its not working.

What am I doing wrong? Or ist it just because of slow Internet?

I think that you need min. 2MB upload from your home network.

beside High upload speed as "namor" mentioned also you need high download speed @ the other side + good streaming application the works over wan and don't forget portfowarding for dm webif interface which will be used by the application

DM 500s " Gemini 4.60 " / CCcam 2.1.1

clarkconnect 4.3 3ghz/ 1G DDR // CCcam 2.0.11

" Don't forget to use Thanks button "

This issue came up a few days ago when someone tried what you are trying and saw only a black screen.

It most likely did not work because of an internet speed problem. Bitrates on a standard TS stream vary between 2000 and 4000 Kbps. You can never stream faster than the source upload speed or the recipient download speed, whichever is lower.

PLI images make internet streaming easy because they have a VLC transcoding interface, but you can do the same if the interface is not present.

1.) You must forward a port on your modem/router to the Dreambox's web interface. This is set to 80 by default. Many routers will not allow port 80 to be forwarded and some ISP's block port 80 to incoming traffic. Changing your Dreambox's web interface port (remember to use an especially strong password since the user name is always the same) and forwarding that port to the Dreambox in your router circumvents these sorts of issues.

2.) Once you are finished with step 1, you can browse to the Dreambox's web interface from the internet. Select the programme you wish to stream and begin recording it. If you have no storage media (hard drive, USB, mmc card), you will have to mount a local PC share to record.

3.) On the left of the web interface page, you should see a "Stream" button. Pressing this will take you to a page of options. You want to stream the file you've just begun recording at a reduced bitrate. This file should already be saving with a TS extension. Browse to this file and select it.

4.) Next, the bitrate for TS files needs to be lowered. The actual bitrate depends on your connection and can be adjusted for the best picture at the remote end, but the 4000Kbps or so that is default for the sum of video and audio in TS streams is probably much too high. Change the video and audio bitrates for TS streams to something your connections can provide.

All should work when you click the Web-X-TV link.

Hi folks

Well m4artin, a member of eurocardsharing has coded a very very nice tool for streaming from dreambox to the net.

Its named ReStream

Well the stream is getting encoded first so that you dont need a high bandwidht.

My myself i started installing it yesterday. Well im not completly through. I allready installed it on my clarkconnect. The connection to the dreambox is ok, so i can see my bouquets but no picture. Well try it out your self and keep me up to date if it works.

This is the part that will annoy people, I think:

"you will need a server (preferably Linux) wich runs a webserver capable of parsing PHP, and of course runs VLC."

Lots of people use CCcamInfoPHP. I have not checked myself, but has anyone tried using this with the server2go Apache that gets installed with CCcamInfoPHP, rather than WAMP?

the server2go should do it too

Well its the second day now. And i tried a lot of stuff. First tried it on my clarkconnect linux server. didnt work. next after hours of trying, windows with wamp. Didnt work too.

Im getting the idea that it might be possible that it doesnt work with the "DREAM 800". Well i dont have a dm500 to try it out. but i should get one soon.

Well if I have any news, ill let you know
