Don't be surprised that I ask you to prove your locals; ECS does not need card fakers...

or a high latency link
check the pings on your server and try removing the links with high results.
I keep my pings below 100ms now due to freezing etc and i rarely get any.

I find it happens on certain packages that I have in hops 3/4 rather than 1/2.

Is there any rules of thumb for how many peers you should have?

hop 3/4 is already far.. it can creates freezes, especially for NDS cards.

Best thing would be to simply block out hop4 and/or hop3. Get as many cards close by and not at that distance. The more hops, the less stable you're picture will be.

But if you are just responding to posts in the freeserver section and people agree to swap c lines with you, is it not likely that they will be hop 3/4?

Not always...and you dont have to accept every offer that is made to you. C/S is 50:50, giving and taking!

-Never far than HOP3
-Check the peers with freezes and block certain cards on peer and HOP basis.
-Block all fake and unused cards (cccam info php shows these) on peer basis.
- A script which blocks deleted peers who try to connect repeatedly is a great help.

Even on NDS there are bad HOP2s and good HOP3 s.....but sure cannot beat HOP1.
Putting low ping peers on top of cccam.cfg helps.....sometimes.
