If you want a bit more remote control the "re-stream" project uses this method but gives a web front end. I have found it very useful as you can experiment remotely with the best settings depending on an restrictions on your client PC (e.g. locked down builds, firewalls etc). Search for "re-stream dreambox M4rTIN" and it will give the link.

TIP: The instructions are very brief so follow them to the letter if you are not familiar with this sort of stuff.

For the record I have it working with my DM500s using Gemini and Nab builds. It used to work with my DM7025 and I think it will again on the re-stream version 1.06 which I have not yet installed. I use a linux PC to run the re-stream server, but had in going once on a windows PC.

problem with streaming to a file on harddisk - 25-October-2008, 20:09

Hi, I used to stream from dreambox to pc with videolan version vlc-0.8.6d-win32. Everything allright :

from = [Only Registered Users Can See LinksClick Here To Register]

and save/stream to "whateverfile.mpg" with extension mpg on harddisk or desktop.

I downloaded the latest version of videolan and tried to do the same but bad result, videolan plays local but no file is saved.

Does anybody know what I'm doing wrong ?

Once i tried it with mozilla it worked great.

This is a very easy and simple method to stream your dreambox over the internet to almost any media device. I use it to watch dreambox on my mobile and laptop when im on the move.

What you will need is:

1.) PLI image flashed on your dreambox - [Only Registered Users Can See LinksClick Here To Register]
If you have pixilation issues, you need the old frame buffer version
Streaming does not always work with gemini images, so i highly recommend using the PLI releases.

2.) VLC media player[Only Registered Users Can See LinksClick Here To Register]

3.) Combined Communtiy codec pack [Only Registered Users Can See LinksClick Here To Register]
You may not need this but it is worth installing to prevent any streaming issues

4.) If you dont have a static IP address, you will need a dynamic dns address [Only Registered Users Can See LinksClick Here To Register]

So the first and probably most complicated thing to do is setup your ports on your PC/Router:

Forward the following port to your PC IP that will be running VLC -> 8080
Forward the following port to your Dreambox IP -> 80 (and possibly 21 - not essential, only for FTP)

Refer to [Only Registered Users Can See LinksClick Here To Register] for visual instructions. This was on a linksys router and other manufacturers will look different, although the principle is the same.

Now the easy part !!!
Open vlc player -> Media -> open network - [Only Registered Users Can See LinksClick Here To Register]

Under network tab select HTTP -> enter [Only Registered Users Can See LinksClick Here To Register] - then click the dropdown menu next to play and select stream - [Only Registered Users Can See LinksClick Here To Register]

Then tick HTTP and type in the IP address of the PC that will be running VLC and the port (8080)

Choose your stream settings (these will depend on available bandwith) and click select all elemntary streams, and TTL: 5
Again, look at the [Only Registered Users Can See LinksClick Here To Register]

My setup is:
Encapsulation MPEG - TS
Video codec H-264 at 256 kb/s - scale 0.4
Audio MP3 64 kb/s 1 channel
- Then click stream!!!
[Only Registered Users Can See LinksClick Here To Register] - [Only Registered Users Can See LinksClick Here To Register]
My setup gives best image for minimum bandwidth usage

On your other system/handheld/laptop or whatever, open network stream in VLC or any other decent player and enter your domain/static IP:8080

Now your VLC will stream your dreambox channel. If you change the channel remotely through enigma, the stream will also change channel... far better than only being able to watch one channel that you have chosen from dream stream or similar program.

to change channel, just enter you domain/staic IP:80 in a browser, and you will be faced with the enigma web interface page!

WOW!!! Happy Zapping

If you have a problem streaming, make sure that any software firewall on your PC is not blocking port 8080 on your PC, or port 31344 & 80 on your dreambox...!

Please leave feedback if you can... i may turn this into a PDF tutorial! Thanks

Hi im new, please can you tell me how you flash pli to dreambox pls?
