800 HD Clone ?? is it good ? - 27-January-2010, 18:39

I have a dreambox 600PVR and I am interested in buying an 800HD for a second TV. Budget is restricted and was thinking of buying a Clone which I found for aprox 220Euro.

How is the Clone compared to the Original? is it worth it ?

thanks for any honest help.

I have an original box and a clone. Both are equally good.
But be aware that some vendors are crooks and that you may have to pay costums when the box is delivered from China or so.

I did get one from china. But at a lower price, 265 USD, aprox 190EUR.
And that was included shipping.
I havent used it for so long, but it seems to work good. Picture quality is good.
The box came with gemini 4.50 installed.
Only thing to mention is that it gets quite hot during use, but I think that is a common thing with the original DM800 as well. They are very small, so the heat must go somewhere.
Also sometimes it feels less resonsive in the menues than the DM7000 that I'm used to. But this again is probably the same with an original box. The DM7000 is 250Mhz and runs with enigma1, and DM800 is 300Mhz but use enigma2.
This could probably improve with using other images.

Oh, and also I had a small problem with the powersupply at first. It had a bad connection, so I found it only worked when I pressed and held in the powercable into the powersupply. But its the same powersupply (expect that it is 2A instead of 3A) as for the DM500, so I used that to test that the DM800 was working.
First I contacted the seller, and he was very sorry and offered me to send me a new powersupply or refund me the money to buy a new one.
Then I opened the powersupply and re-soldered some connections and it was working again, so I cancelled my request for a new one.
But I can recommend the seller for being honest, look for seller name EDEN on

Let's be clear about one thing please. No clone is as good as an original. You get what you pay for.

I have to second that but if money really is an issue then at more then half the price of the DM800 orignal then it may be a great buy just watch the drivers you use in it and images.
I have never used a clone DM800 but i had a clone DM500 that was very poor compared to the orignal DM500 i purchased later on. i now own a DM800 orignal and it truely is fantastic little box.

Good luck with your purchase
