DM7020 won't work till heated - 05-April-2010, 10:56

Hi,

I have a DM 7020.
At first there was no problem.
But with the winter passing in the box took more and more time to give me a picture.
The signal meter was down to 63%.
At first the box waited about 1 minute to give me a picture.
But now i almost have to wait 30 minutes to see a picture.
When i use a heater to warm up my box it takes about 1 minute to get a picture now.
Also the singal meter gives back a normal level of 97% when it's heated.
I can almost see it increase :-)

Does anybody know what to do?
Replace the tuner? or buy a new box?

I,ve already replaced the capacacitators.

Thanks,
Arent

I dunno anything about electrical equipment, it almost sounds you got the opposite red ring of doom (xbox) which was caused by bad soldering and heat made the material expand which caused contacts to get loose

It sounds like that a capacitor has gone hig esr and by heating it it lowers the esr, I can repair if you like, like i say i will help those that helped me i can give you some guidance, I repaired a High def set acouple of months back and it turn out that it was a surface mount low voltage regulator, but yours seem more like a capacitor problem, a quick note look for slight bulging at the top, this is a tell tale sign, the aluminium 105 degree, look at the top with the aluminium foldng into a cross if the apex is sticking up slightly that be the one,

I work in an electronics shop.
There my co worker has already changed the capacitor's.
That didn't fix it.
He has a 7020 to and that was the fix for him.
But mine still doens't work fine.

He said that it probably was a problem with the tuner..
Because on that side i put a heater to get a picture.

Now he wants to try replacing his tuner with my tuner.
And then watch...
But some other advise is still very much apreciated.

If you still have the box and has the same problem, we can diagnose it remotely. you will need a multimeter and access inside the box. Do you know what a multimeter is and how to use it?

80% percent is not the tuner.

First thing you can do is check if you have the correct voltage going to the lnb. This is done by tuning the box to a channel with vertical polarisation and measuring with the multimeter the boxes output, then putting the box in horizontal polarisation and measure the output again. Tell me the two values and we will take it from there.

Sorry,

1 week ago my college's had the box again.
There was a bad contact and one new capacitator that wasn't good.
They have replaced en modified it so it works good already.

Thanks for the comments
