DM800 - original / clone ? - 18-October-2009, 21:37

I'd like to buy this receiver. I'm considering buying clone - the price is really nice. Is there any trouble with dm800 clones that should be reasons to not buy to the clone for me?

just bought a clone and all looks good!
will be setting it up tonight!!!
so might be a long night!!!

things i initally noticed!
mac address is 00:09:34:9c..... = same as originals!

the tuner IS A PLUGGABLE one like original! (other clones are soldered in)

the remote being poor i dont know if it is or not as not powered it up yet!

jst fitted hdd, have taken out sata external connector so i can fit a 25mm2 fan in there to keep it nice and cool (heard all 800's run warm!)

REMOTE CONTROL is the problem - 20-October-2009, 12:36

The fake ones have a very bad sensitivity to the remote control. It is very frustrating. They say that with a universal RC you can be fine.

well after playing with my 800 clone everything seems good!

had a few problems with it rebooting in certain menus, but this turned out to be my setup ;o/

remote sensitivity is very good! this must have been fixed as well!

i have this setup in my living rom and have a video sender send it to my bedroom!
using a remote in my bedroom on my old dm5620 is a bit patchy at times, and this 1 performed just as good being watched in bedroom (gf wanted the main tv grrr)

bootup is slow. but i dont know how fast an original is!

oled display is same as original!

only thing i found is that it runs warm, so i bought a small fan 25mm x 25mm from rs and put it in this is just enough to move the air, this is not needed but i want to try and prolong the life of it!

looking online the original clones did not have changable tuners, this does!

and the mac address was not as per an original! this has been sorted aswell!

at the moment i have no experience with it and am just learning, but it looks promising!

cheers ian

Ok the new clones are of much better build than the first lot, with the latest boot loader 72 sim fitted (you can replace these easy in a Clone)

but with a price of 215 over the original at 380 there is a big difference
plus all the new clones i have seen lately have a heat sink and a fan, something the oringal lack .

So as for me i will stick with the clone.

Take a bit of time and don't rush in. I bought 2 clones for me and a mate and neither will drive our motorised dishes. I also know of others in the sma e position (and one of them is an original!!).
So if you plan on using it in a fixed system (with multi lnb's if you wish) then you should be OK. When it comes to moving the dish its far less likely to work the way it should.

here is a post from today on another site

"ok guys a quick update. last night i connected my dm500 and my dm800 at the same time. what i did was use my 500 to move to motor to each sat that i wanted then scanned the 800 in on that sat and so on with all the sats. so now my 800 has all the sats and channels working but it still wont move my dish. have tryed all the settings on this thread and not a hint of it moving. so am lost now what to do with this box. feel like smashing it to bits and keeping my faithful 500"

This is exactly the issue a number of us have. There are a few of us working together trying to get a fix on this but so far we have been totally unsuccessful.

Hope this helps in your consideration on what to do.

i would say that sounds like a dud flash rather than a dud box, I have no problems so far with setups for me and my friends, I'm running nabilosat BH 0.12 in the flash and setup was strange to start with going from a DM600 clone (greatbox) to the DM800, Just take your time and read up first, E2 images and not even close to E1 for setting up.

and replace the fan i found a 13db 40mm x 40mm X 10mm fan on the net for 5
i test the sound level on the oringal fan 37db.
