Any brand and size must work. Importand is to atach external power suplay to your HDD, couse power on USB on DM800 is not enough. I test with Gemini 3.7 and 120GB, 2,5" Seagate and 250GB 3,25" Hitachi in some third party case. W/o external power didn't work. When i attach power to HDD, all was OK.

From my experience and talking to others about HD's & the DM800 i'd recommend the external HD rather than an internal because of major overheating problems (which is a big pain in the ass for me, i need to get a laptop cooler or something similar to make my unit run stable) but you definately need to use external power source or it won't work, the bigger the drive the better :) lots more recorded tv programs

nni00288,

have no such think like "external HDD for Windows" !!! It is only a " external HDD" !!!

Yes of course, you can use this HDD with your Dream.

Regards,
jarjar

PS: your ext. HDD must have USB interface, and external PS

I have a Western Digital MyBook Studio now.

eSata is not working :(

When I connect with USB it is working and I formatted the drive.

What can I do, to let eSata work on a DM800HD with Pli Jade?

My External WD myBook has both connectors.

eSata and USB

USB = Working
eSata = Not

Got it working

WORKING GREAT! Recording in HD etc.

The problem was the eSata cable, cut a little bit from the head, so I can put it further in the myBook.

) Click on the Start menu
2) Right click on Computer and click on Manage

3) You may get a User Account Control dialog here; just click Continue
4) In the left pane, open up the Storage category and click on Disk Management.

5) Here, you will find your disks. Right click on the disk and remove partition.
6) Create new partition. ( do not format )
7) Rightclick on the partion and set it to active.

8) Fully turn off dreambox ( remove power )
9) Connect HDD
10) Power on Dreambox
