Thumbs up DM800HD-S Heat and stability issues - 02-November-2009, 23:33

Dear Forum,

I have had alot of problems with my DM800, from day one it was unstable. I recently found what seems to be the root cause. It was heat, but not from the processer alone - it was from the tuner and the stability issues was caused by the tuner module failing to tune properly when too hot.

I was using a Motor for my dish - it seems like it was too much to drive the motor from the output of the tuner. I used a Clark Motor from HM-Sat.

After I took the Motor out of the loop and setup a twin LNB Dish I now have a stable picture all night long.

Have you installed a fan yet mate?

It's a must to ensure a long life for your receiver!

I have added 2 heat plates to remove heat from the CPU and a chip on the tuner board that got very hot. It all worked very well.
But the most important thing I did was to get rid of Gemini 4.4 and install Newnigma2 2.8. The whole box cooled down and became stable now.

I managed to install my harddrive inside the box - no more USB cable and external supply for that one, nd get the USB stick for WIFI running again. All is stable now.
