Dreambox newbie help - 08-February-2012, 12:42

Hi guys I have just bought a dreambox hd 800. I would like to use wireless broadband with it to see how that goes. I see that there is a disc with drivers on it to install with my dreambox. How do I do this? Do i have to connect my dreambox to my pc and if so how will i do this. Also How do I put the images on to my dreambox?
Im determined to set this box up myself with the help of this forum instead of overpaying some guy to do it for me. All replies are helpful.
I look forward to your reply.

Firstly get your box connected to the network. An ethernet cable is easiest to do but you say you want to connect by wireless - have you bought a wireless dongle? You connect this dongle to your computer, then set up the wireless ssid and network key so it knows how to connect to your network. Then plugging it into the dreambox network port will allow the 800 to connect to your wireless network.
If you don't have a dongle - then run an ethernet cable to it.
This is the connection made now fro box to pc.
Download Dreamup to allow you to upload an image from the pc to the box - I use OpenPli images on my Dm500 and presume they work on an 800 - use the search button to find out what image people find best on the 800.
Then upload you cccam.cfg file with your clients and server connections to /var/etc and you are good to go.

All this, and much more, has been written before really though and you will find all you need by searching this forum.

A friend of mine is using a Linksys WET610N wireless bridge to get the dreambox connected to network wireless. In his home sharing the connections seems to break from time to time tho - dunno if it's due to the bridge or some other issue in his network. Personally I use a wired connection and that one works stable all the time - so if you have a chance to get it connected using a LAN cable somehow I recommend doing it that way.
Also streaming from the dreambox will defintely work better that way.

Regarding installing an image the easiest way probably is unplugging the Dreambox, holding the button, replugging, then looking at the Dreambox display to see what IP the Dreambox becomes (must be connected to network and u must have some router or so that provides an IP to the Dreambox using DHCP).
The just connect to the Dreambox with your PC's local browser (http://ip-address-that-is-displayed-on-dreambox) and upload the image file using the web interface.

I hope you find my comments somehow useful :)
