Getting a Clone or not?? - 21-August-2008, 13:39

Hi I'm new to dreamboxes so please don't flame me to hard
I'm thinking of getting a dreambox 600 s and is very tempted to go for a clone.
I will get it shipped to me for about 150 so that I think is really cheap.
1) Why should/shouldn't I buy a clone?
2) Does the clone support a harddrive?

I not have experience with DM600 clones, but several years ago my friend, import 100 clones of dm500. I took two of them for me. With my two colnes i havn't any problems for two years, but my friend told me that more than 30% of clones are back to him for warranty with diferent prblems.

So, i think that better idea is to get a original DM600. If this is too expensive for you, you can buy original second hand (price must be 80-180 euro). Now many peoples are chenging their dm600 for dm800. I am one of them. My is not for sale ;)

Cheers

Also.. Dream Multimedia is hunting down those fake dreamboxes. Quite some people found their DM500 rendered useless last summer after a software upgrade: Their boxes died and they could only be revived after re-flashing them with a JTAG cable which costs money.

My advice: buy the real thing....

* HTPC with POV Intel Atom Dual Core 1,66Ghz
* 4 Gbyte / 32 GByte SSD / BluRay draive
* Latest XBMC Version

Yes I heard that, and I asked the clone-seller and he replied that only the cable-boxes have this "problem". Don't know if thats true...
But if I stay away from the geminin images I should be fine right??
I can get two clones for the same price of a real one so I'm still tempted!
Convince me why I shouldn't

For now if you stay away from gemini you are safe, but you wont get an official statement from other images that it wont happen either in the future.
They officially support original Dreambox, so if they use updates from Dream Multimedia in their images it still can happen with any other image that clones get time bombed.

Yes that seller doesn't seem to know what he is selling...
I haven't figured this out by reading in the forums so please help me
I want to cardshare with 2-4 persons will I need two dreamboxes? One as server and one for my TV or can I use one as both a server and for my TV?
Or do I need a dreambox and a PC?

You can use every dreambox as a server and client simultaneously. If you have a one TV - one dreambox is enough. You can use PC for a server (is more stable and fast), but this is not obligatory.
