Hi

I was wondering if anyone has had success at streaming HDTV broadcast onto Dreambox hard drive and then playing back on PC or a HDTV?

I don't think this is going to work since H264 is not supported.

Yes it works fine. In fact you can use the web interface to stream the station live to the PC where it is decoded as you watch. BUT this only works for a few HD stations. All of Sky HD cannot be watched as the tuner cannot detect the HD signal. I used to watch the Euro HD tests this way so I know it works!

If the transponder carrying the HD channel is a DVB-S QPSK transponder then it will work. However if the transponder is a DVB-S2 8PSK, then the DM7020 tuner will not be able to tune so it won't work

There is no way the DM7020 would be able to play the stream. What we're discussing is the following

  1. DM7020 tuning to HD channels using DVB-S
  2. DM7020 sending the H.264 stream of the tuned channel to PC
  3. PC decoding the H.264 stream
There is another problem though. The network card of the DM7020 is not very good, and so it won't be able to sustain the HD bitrate.
