Question Help Pls,VLC on DMM500S - 09-April-2007, 21:22

I am having some difficulty in getting my Dreambox500S to show over my LAN.
I have no problem with my DMM7020S over the same network.
Both have different IP addresses (obviously) and When iI do the same on the 500S as I do on the 7020S it shows nothing.
The VLC box pops-up but does not open as I presume that it is not getting a stream.
Has anyone got a resolution to solve this please?

Gemini latest on both but maxVar on the 5oo.
Latest VLC on all computers in network(4of) running windows xp.

Not that I can recall, even with other images, I have changed situ of both boxes (ie swapped network cables around) so that one box is exactly the same as the other was but same response.
No view.

Can you get a stream using something else?

Do you have a linux box somewhere?

Try mplayer http://192.168.2.7:31339/0,045f,00ab,01ba,01bb

Where the http line is the contents of the video.m3u

It'll give you a bunch of diagnostics.

Gentoo Linux - Nexus-s, Linux VDR - 2 x ATSC HD cards, Hauppauge PVR 500 for analog US Cable, 3 x Hauppauge MVP's running Vomp on VDR, UK TV on IPTV.

Not a single sat dish at the moment. :-(

Download a linux live CD. Search for Knoppix.. Boot your windows machine with it and try that.

I am assuming that during the installation of VLC, you have ticked all the options offerred. If not, first Uninstall VLC, re-install it and tick all the options. Then install Dreamview on your PC and proceed as follows:-

Purpose of Dreamview:-

• to Stream/record video/audio (including MPEG-2 4:2:O (PAL) and MPEG-2 4:2:2 Feeds) from DB500 to PC

To operate:-

• requires VLC software installed on PC

Additional information:-

• On PC, you may view Recorded Video (.ts) with VLC, Nero Showtime or Windows Media Player. Moreover, you may also view(.mpg) files using the same softwares as well as with Win DVD.

• (.mp3) files are also compatible with the four aforementioned softwares

• on your TV screen, you may replay your recorded video (.ts) and (.mpg) files through your DB500 amd may also playback your (.mp3) files too.

• For this function, however, you will require a CIFS Mount on your DB500.

How to set-up Dreamview

Open Dreamview
Goto Options>Preferences>Connection
Insert your Dreambox IP Address, Username (root), and Dreambox password (default is dreambox or whatever you may have changed it to)
Do not touch the following values, namely:-HTTP Port 80, Video Port 31339 and Audio Port 31343. Just Press OK.
Go back to Options>Preferences>Auto Soundtrack
On the first line select eng and on the second select dos/qaa. Press OK
Go back to Options>Preferences>Stream Output String
Go to Output Directory
Browse to the Directory where you wish to store the recordings to be made by Dreamview and press OK.
Go back to Options>Preferences>General Settings
Where you have Playing, select Nothing and Press OK
Goto Options>Update Channels. A Window pops up:-Update Channels.
Tick get user bouquets and press OK and wait
When it says Finished click on Close
GotoView and Show Channel List
You can now view the Channel List from your Dreambox500 on Dreamview.
Double click on the Channel of your choice.
After a few seconds you will get streaming on your PC (if not double click again)
To record, go to Stream>Output>Start Output
After a few seconds you will get recording on your PC (if not double click again)
You will find your recording in the Directory chosen by you..

From now on:-

1) to stream:-
Just Open Dreamview
Goto View and Show Channel List.
Double click on the Channel of your choice
After a few seconds you get streaming onto your PC

2) to record, continue as follows:-
Goto Stream>Output>Start Output
After a few seconds you get recording onto your PC
You will find your recording in the Directory chosen by you.

Final Note:- the stronger the signal on the Transponder of the chosen Channel, the better the quality of your stream/recording.
Good Luck.

Quick Start

Extract the zip file to a folder somewhere and double click on dreamView.exe
