How to repair DM800 Network Card?? - 12-October-2009, 22:04

Hello

I have a DM800HD PVR. It seems its network card is dead :( No matter everything i done (reflashed, formated, etc etc) the network leds doen't turn On and i have no Lan connection.

Does anyone ever heard for spare parts to repair the NIC of this box?? (i have good electronic skills)

Also, I have a USB Network Card and i was thinking maybe connect it in one of the DM800 USB ports and use it. But the box doesn't see it, or at least there is no place in the menus where i can setup that...

Can anybody help me, i don't want to throw away the box...it is a nice box :(

This wont be of much help but>

I blew a network card on a DM500 a while back and ended up selling it on flea bay, the buyer repaired it. not sure how thou but he was on my peer list for a little while after, but have lost contact now :(

So i would assume it is repairable?

As you have nothing to lose why not try to remove the network connector and replace with another one? It might be worth a go if your soldering skills are good!

Good luck

Thanks PLAN B for the reply.
I repair routers and network server cards and i know that the connector isn't the problem..(i also measured its integrity). The problem lies in IC controlling the card.
I found some schematics on the web but it seems i would need parts that will also cost a bunch that's why i was thinking about using the LAN USB adapter i already have. I know it can be done with some linux programing skills but i don't know how to do it :(

your best bet at the moment is to build the kernel modules for your USB card. high level: 1. get your hands on the dev kit for DM images.
2. find out the build process
3. upload the open source driver for the card you have and build the kernel module. You will probably need the kernel headers for the image you are using/
4. build :-)
5. build a custom image or manually load the kernel modules to your DM
off you o (assuming you get there)

be warned this will take time unless you are a Linux head and have experience doing the above. The value of your time, only you know it, personally I would just send it to DM...

regards
