Hi,

I am currently building a dish setup (Astra,1,2,3,Hotbird) but not yet decided which satbox i should buy.

I am an experienced computer user (but not linux)
I love the Dreambox concept, but I hesitate.
So I would like to have your opinion on two things:

Would it be an option to use it out of the box first and learn (the advanced stuff) gradually?

How does this sharing stuff work, do I have to find my own peers or is this sort of automatic?

Thanks in advance for any advice..

The dreambox can be used "OUT OF THE BOX" however even this will require a little knowledge to open some channels.
All the answers are here on the forum and as long as you try, people will be more than happy to help out. So Jump straight in!!

Well now as far as finding peers goes your on your own there!
you can post in the request card section, or if you have something to share try the G box or CCcam sections.

Well, given the poor response to guys looking for peers this leaves me a bit apprehensive.

Do be like that, not everyone is the same.....there are plenty of "good guys and gals" out there who will help a newbie!
If you don`t go for a linux box then what will you get ?
I`ve been down the road of patched receivers, cams and cards, and believe me card sharing is a alot easier.
Have a look around your retailers they may be able to do a deal with a cheap sub card.

that is true actually, and anyways cams/keys are starting to phase out slightly, encryptions are becoming harder to crack so not much available.

linux box is best to go for, and once set up it all run's by itself, no need for downloading new updates every 12hours like you did on patched receivers or with software/hardware keys.
