Unhappy NFS Mount Help - 21-October-2007, 17:40

Hi, I'm having trouble mounting a drive from my Ubuntu PC to my dm500 (Gemini 4.0). Both are connected via wireless. I'm new with all of this, i'm sorry if i forgot to mention any vital information.

I created the folder in my PC called dreambox with folder /hdd with folder /movie

So far what I attempted was to try to mount from (Enigma Web Interface -> Config -> Mount Manager) with settings

File System: NFS
Client Directory : /hdd
Server Directory : /home/"User"/dreambox/
IP : PC IP
User name/Password : used a user with access to the folder

Second thing I tried was to use the automount under the Blue panel -> Extras/Settings. I used similar settings but no luck either.

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance.

ii> Create a new folder called "dreambox" (c:\dreambox). Share it (Right Click on "dreambox" File / Click on "Common Use & Security" / Checkmark on the "Common Use & Security" Option).
Create two (2) subfolders (inside "dreambox" folder) : a> "hdd" and b> "movie". Share them (same procedure).

iii> Download and install (path of your choice) the "NFSDream 1.05" application ("TrueGird NFS 1.1" is optional).

iv> Run the program "NfsDream" :
- Click "Create" and scroll down to "Win/NT/XP/2K". Scroll down and click Portmap Add
- Same procedure and click "Nfs Add"
- Click "Create" and click "Set Record Path" : the directory (folder) you named "dreambox".
You will also notice there is a new subfolder , within the location you chose , called "movie". This is where all recordings will be stored.
- Now click "Configure" and click "Nfs Start" ( you may get a message Nfs already started - this is normal).

Finally click "Mount" and you should get the following message : The drive <PC IP Address>/Dreambox is mounted

Go to MENU -> SETUP -> EXPERT SETUP -> COMMUNICATION SETUP
In comunication setup -> Go to Mounts (blue button)
IP: (PC's IP Address) -> Click OK and change to NFS
Dir: dreambox
LocalDir: /hdd
Options: RW
Extra: Leave it as is (if empty , type "nolock" )
User: dream
Password: dream
Automount : Enable
Mount (green button)

That's it , you've just mounted a drive. You can add up to 10.

After having successfully completed the whole procedure , you are able to activate the "dvr record" option. Just go to your "epg select option" (Red button) and select the channel you want to record from. Press the Green button and select the "dvr record" option.

But this is for Windows, I use Ubuntu (Linux). Do you know what I should do?

Thanks

(22-October-2007 13:27)
Finally after hours of trying out, i have managed to successfully mount my [B]Ubuntu (Linux) Pc to my dm500 and even managed to record on the pc and watch using my dm500.

This is the how to, this is my first 'how to' ever so bear with me
Hope it helps someone out there.

Thanks to http://www.ubuntugeek.com/nfs-server...in-ubuntu.html

This tutorial assumes that you have already are able to telnet from your PC to Dreambox.

My configuration:
DM500 (Gemini 4.00) connected to Belkin router using Linksys wireless adapter.
Ubuntu (Gutsy Gibbon) PC connected to Belkin router using Belkin wireless card.

First let us prepare the NFS Server

Installing NFS Server onto your Linux

Open up Terminal and type in
Code:
sudo apt-get install nfs-kernel-server nfs-common portmap
Remember not to bind loopback!

Now we will restart Portmap, type in Terminal
Code:
sudo /etc/init.d/portmap restart
Now we should edit the exports file to give permission to our dreambox to access the disk.

Do the following

Type in Terminal
Code:
sudo gedit /etc/exports
This will open up the exports file in which we have to enter the share name on the computer and address of the dreambox along with the options.

Enter the following in a new line
Code:
/home/"user" 192.168.*.*(rw,no_root_squash,async)
Don't worry about creating the movie folder, the folder will be automatically created when we mount the disk. It will be created /home/"user"/movie

/user = is the user profile you want your dreambox to access the share from
IP (192.168.*.*) = is the IP of your dreambox on the network
rw = read & write
no_root_squash = this gives the dreambox root access on the server
async = this will improve performance by replying to requests before you start writing to the hdd.

Save and Exit

Restart the NFS Server

Type in Terminal
Code:
sudo /etc/init.d/nfs-kernel-server restart
Now we need to refresh the changes made in /etc/exports

Type in Terminal
Code:
sudo exportfs -a
Thats it for the server, now to our dreambox.

Let us mount the disk from our dreambox

From the Linux PC in Terminal Type in
Code:
telnet 192.168.*.*
192.168.*.* is the IP of your dreambox.

Enter your username and password.

After this type in
Code:
mount 192.168.*.*:/home/"user" /var/mnt/nfs
192.168.*.* = the Linux PC IP
/"user" = the user with the shared disk
/var/mnt/nfs = the location on your dreambox where you want to mount the drive.

That is all there is to it. If everything worked then you'll see the mount when you go to Blue Panel -> System Info -> Mount Points

Ok to automount do the following

Open your browser and point it to your dreambox by entering the dreambox IP. Enter your user name and password.

Select "Config" from the top and then select "Mount Manager".

In the Mount Manager page select "Add".
A pop up window will appear.

Fill it up as follows
Code:
Description: "Give it a description, I said Linuxpc"
Filesystem Type: 0
Auto Mount: Tick
Client Directory: /var/mnt/nfs
Server Directory: /home/"user"
IP: "Enter the dreambox IP"
User Name: Blank
Password: Blank
Options: no_root_squash,rsize=4096,wsize=4096

Tick the following: rw, nolock, intr, soft, udp
Save and close window.

Hi karl04, can you please confirm that nothing is being recorded by switching to file mode on the dm500 and finding nothing recorded under there.

I will try to re add the linux drive again, and see if i can figure out the problem.

Cheers

Hi,
Thanks for the post but I have the same issue the hard disk is "mounted",
I can jump in it but when I try to record nothing is saved.
Is this only working with a Gemini image ?
I also tried with a samba share same result even if I provide full access to the directory.
Any clue how I can find what is going wrongly ?
PS: I am using a nemesis image.

Kind regards & Happy Sharing.
