Which Dreambox for me - 04-September-2008, 13:41

Hi all

i now know that i want a dreambox, and not any other linux based box.
However, having got myself a philips hd tv, i'm now doubtful which dreambox to get.

First i thought i'd start slow, and get a 500s... but now i wonder if i'll be wasting money and would need to upgrade soon, so here are my requirements:

From MOST important to Least IMPORTANT:

1. Recording capabilities with builtin hd (so that eliminates 500s)
2. HD output (only 800 as far as i know)

Now i see between the 600 series which answers my need number 1, and the 800 series which answers need number 2, there are a heck load of 7000 series.... which i have no idea what they do better compared to the 600 and what they lack compared to the 800 - apart of DVI output.

Any input is welcome, help me choose my ideal dreambox (i'm ready to invest full price, so the $$ isn't a requirement, as long as i get for my money's worth)

Might be worth waiting for the 8000 to be a bit more stable?

If You want HD, 800 is Your only option. But there's still a lot of bugs in the 800. Hardware as well as software. And it's only equipped with 1 cardreader (working like s**t).
The 7020 has the option for a harddrive, 2 (well working) cardreaders, RF output and to top it of, it's rock solid and with a lot of support.

I have expiriance with DM500, DM7000, DM600 and DM800. AT the moment i still using DM600 and DM800. DM600 is a very stable, it is a good choice. DM800 look like perfect choice, but still have some problems. I think that most of them will solved on next software revision, but heat problem you must solve by your self.
If you can wait, DM8000 will out for sale this month. DM8000 is looking like ultimate HD receiver! My be your dream is DM8000.

Cheers

I have a 7000, a 500 and, most important, an 800 HD. Given the fact that you want to record and make use of your HD TV, the choice is easy because only one model meets your requirements: DM 800 HD with a(n internal or external, eSATA or USB 2) disk.

Welcome to the club!
