funny problem with ccam server - 07-September-2014, 01:39

A friend of mine has set-up a free cccam server. Everything seems to be done properly but something is wrong because when he is online to his peers he cannot view from others and when he views from others he is seen as offline by them. Any idea of what the problem might be?

He also noticed that when in the dreambox settings he puts the nameserver (the nameserver he is getting it from the pc), others will see him as offline but he can view from the other peers. While if he leaves the nameserver empty then he cannot view from the other peers but the other peers see him as online.

Any solutions please?

Sounds like either a borked CCcam.cfg or even a borked /etc/network/interfaces file.....

But that's where I'd start looking.

i think, networking is screwed up, or there is not enough informations to diagnose

usually there is router which act as a default gateway, dns server, dhcp server, port forwarding

there are two options
1. ip address is set up manually on dreambox
2. ip address is pulled from dhcp ( in this case - there is no need to put anything into dreambox manually)

usually dns server address set up on dreambox is the same as default gateway,

some more description about network configuration would be helpfull...
because this note
Quote:
(the nameserver he is getting it from the pc)
looks quite suspiciously ....

thanks for your reply.

so the ip addresses in the dreambox settings is inputted manually. He also port forwarded the ip addresses accordingly, and in my opinion they are correct.

regarding the nameserver, he got it from the pc by typing 'ipconfigall' in the command prompt, and noted the dns servers and inputted them in the dreambox.

the problem seems to be with the nameserver. When you input the nameserver in the dreambox settings, you are offline to the peers but you can get channels from them. On the other hand, if you leave the nameserver blank, you dont get channels from the other peers, but the other peers will see you as online.

The dreambox has been given a new image already, the network cable was changed as well, and the router was reset again and settings entered from fresh.

ok, no new helpful info,

there is no reason - if dns is set up on dreambox - to broke connections from outside to box - if port forwarding is setup correctly, dns definitely needs to be setup on dreambox,

if it is not big problem, ipconfig /all from PC, and network setting on dreambox would help, also router address, ..
you can change (leave out) sensitive info (domain, isp, ..)

192.168.1.1 --> 192.168.x.1
--------------------------------------------------------------
another option
turn dhcp on - on dreambox, write down network settings, turn off dhcp, put the same setting on dreambox - except ip address, which must be the same as in port forwarding on router

---------------------------------------------------------------
it can be that network setting is ok, and cccam cfg is misconfigured,
first i would set up dns on dreambox - to have connections from inside to outside working, and then check if port is visible from internet for incoming connections, if yes, turn on cccam debug messages and search for errors ...
