a cheap solution for noisy fan fix. - 23-March-2011, 01:33

If you got a noisy fan, so as i has ,is simply to fix

fan are oke but they are very dry ,thats why anoying noise

turn the fan upside down removed the sticker under, its black i supose like mine

Take a little bit vaseline and drop it down in the middle hole ,and replace a new strong tape
dont use a vingertip (tape will not hold) replace the fan back

thats it, runs smootlhy again

A fan can be noisy due to bad (worn out) bearings too and in that case the boise will return shortly...

It's worth a try though. Lubrication might solve many problems if applied on the right spots.

Instead of Vaseline it might be better to use oil from sewing machines. It is a very thin oil, specially for (fast) moving parts.

After dripping in some drops, it might be a good idea to let the fan spin for some time out of the dreambox. So no oil flies into your dreambox.

Or indeed buy new fans on Ebay etc :)

Just wanted to add that I actually had success on this using a teflon based lubricant. Used on both DM fan and CPU fan in my PC :)

I had my Dreambox 800HD about 2 weeks now and the fan noise was starting to become unbearable so I simply disconnected it, now I have peace and quiet.
