have you checked your ethernet cable, I had a dodgy ethernet cable that did the same, it looked as if the box was connected, but would never get an IP from router.

what happens if you try to run an ifconfig from the command line/telnet, does it give you any eth0 information or is it knackered at that stage as well?

Thanks all for the help. I tried indeed all of the following
- change cable
- change router box itself
- IP Terminal : network setting
- I tried even to follown LEDs lightning between a working DM7000 and my dead port DM7020 by opening the boxes.
--- In working aDM7000, 2 green LEDS are On and then a Red LED goes on when the network gets up at boot
--- In my DM7020 I see 2 Green Leds lightning but the Red Led gets ON and then dropps OFF immediately at boot or whenever I try to apply a new IP address by Hyper Terminal.

all this makes me feel that my network chip is dead
