Network card seems not functioning - 06-June-2009, 23:34

Hi,

I have relook 400s and it cant get an IP from the router even setting a manual ip does not connect the receiver to the LAN. I replaced the the ethernet cable but no luck. I assume the network card is damaged. Can I replace the network card? Thanks.

To Denilson15

First try different images out, then look do u have allowed from router more as 3 free IP-s what is for some routers default. And at least go to some friend palce and try there too do be sure. To your question yes it is possibe to change relook network card. The relook network cards are in socket there and easy to replace if you find new one.

Good testing

Something is strange.

You must have flashed the image by serial or have never put one on. Was it ever working?

Check in communications setup to see that your box is on the same net as your router (192.168.1.xxx won't talk to 192.168.0.xxx, for example), set a compatible IP for the box, disable DHCP, and disable/enable network. You might have to reboot, but not usually.

Direct box to PC CAT5 ethernet cable might have to be crossed, but it might not, and this is the best way to remove the router from the equation.

Then just try a basic ping from PC to box. If even that does not work, go to Tuxbox Commander if you have it and try ifconfig.

What's making you grab for the new NIC so quickly?

Thanks guys. I tried all the above mentioned even directly connecting the PC to the box but to no avail. Yes it was working fine for more than 2 years now but suddenly this happened. I am 99.9% sure now that the network card adapter is damaged. I will try to find a new one.
