Question Gbox... how to manage ATACKs ??? - 04-July-2008, 10:42

Hi all,
I got a Dbox2 and use gbox 2.1b...
Since some time I receive hundreds of atacks daily and I wonder if there is a way to stop these???
In my router I configured the firewall but it can only handle 5 ip adresses !
This helps but is by far not enough; I still have another 6 ip's coming and coming in...
What can I do ?

I'm afraid you have 2 options:

1. in the firewall, block all incoming and accept only your peers
Maybe it allows you to accept a few ip's and block the rest. (most firewalls
check the rules sequentially)
2. change the firewall for a usable one.

I would always block and accept selectively (which I do) and, when needed, update the firewall software. Any firewall software that limit's the number of ip's you can configure is rubbish in my opinion.

I hope this helps.

Thanks for the reply, but... it's impossible to change the firewall of my router; it's part of the operating software of the d-link DI-524 router !

İf you dont want attack with 2.1b you must change your n-line(in cwshare.cfg)
N: { 00 01 03 00 2000 2000 }

That doesnt stop the attacks it only makes gbox not write them to attack.txt.
The only sullotion is to close the port they are comming on wich ofcourse means youll have to make a lot of peers change to another one.I once had a peer that put the dline he got from me on a public forum and a lot of people tried to use it.
But usually these attacks are usually caused by yourself.
The best way to avoid them is to keep a up to date register with mail and msn over your peers so you can contact them if you for some reason delete them.If the attacks are comming from former peers that you deleted you can put there Dline back in cwshare and give them sharelevel 0 0.No moore attacks and they wont get anything from you.

THANK you all and specially @samot4 !... your solution seems to work well.
I reentered all the peers who had been removed during the last two years because lack of sharing from them and gave them 0 and 0 sharing.
Now it seems that I have no atacks anymore... wait and see, but first impression looks good!

what image do you use?

In PLI is a build in firewall that does the job for me.
To use it edit the file firewall.users in var/ect.

Insert the dns names or IP numbers from users who are allowed to connect.

Don't forget the IP nr from you local computer.
And start the service firewall in PLI.

If you feel the need use the button.

It is better to give than to take, to share is divine..........
