What is so special about the Skystar 2? - 19-December-2007, 14:24

It might be a stupid question. Anyhow, I am curious, what makes the Skystar 2 so special? What can I do with it?

Thanks for any answers.

research it, but alternatively look into a dreambox, these give a more powerful overall result through europe

Its simple. Price and software support. You can watch and record satelite TV and do cardsharing with Gbox on Win an linux machines. Its allmoust everything you need.

It's basically like a Dreambox, only cheaper? Any disadvantages?

Yep. Tuner is not so good like in Dreambox and for now dont support CCcam.

as mentioned its cheap to buy..handles all bar dvb s2 formats..can be used in windows or linux..also great fun for satellite grabbing from internet servers..various plugins for radio etc can be used for weather satellite reception..the list is endless..only word of warning it does everything in software so you need a fairly powerful machine..

don't bother with old hardware/software, stick with the times.

CCcam is much better than Gbox as no editing is needed and no messy configuration, a dreambox can handle this and is much more powerful, so what it might be abit more expensive you are getting your moneys worth as things are being developed for it all the time.

It's all about power and what it can do, you can buy a dreambox 500-s for about 100 (150 euros) these days so its not all that pricey.

I havea mate who had one of the technomate models and he never uses that now he has his dreambox, it's like everything in 1 case.....just about

i've never used the skystar or whatever it's called because most advanced users all use a dreambox.......need i say more

It's the cheaper solution for digital satelite tv, radio and data.

It is also fully programmable, and there are many applications with useful features.

not exactly bigging it up though are you.

i mean people speak of all these plugins it has such as weather, ffs the thinbg has to connect to your computer to work, just check the darn weather on the internet.

Wit the dreambox it is different, it acts like a computer, this in my eyes is just cheap and nasty, i once had one of them USB freeview tuners and it wasn't the same, plus you cannot use your computer if you want to watch TV.

good for money saving but all in all..i still prefer the DB

suppose a decent thing is you don't have to worry about space when recording, but that's about all.
